The Peace of God 🕊
God has been speaking to me lately about the peace of God. One day after being busy running errands all day as soon as I got home I felt this overwhelming peace in my house that I did not feel at any of the stores while I was out. I noticed a drastic difference in the level of peace I felt at home versus the peace I felt everywhere else. I did not realize it while I was busy out running errands that I did not feel peace in the stores, but as soon as I felt the amazing peace of God in our home then I was aware of the fact I did not feel that while I was away. It’s as if busyness blinds and numbs you from being aware of what you are missing.
Busyness can bring a diversion and can be distracting from what God is wanting to speak to us and do in our lives. There are many times when we must be busy in order to accomplish and complete things, but the problem is when we do not know how to not be busy even when we do not have things to do, but rather we make ourselves busy because we do not have peace and rest. I have encountered many times in my life busyness being the number one distraction from me experiencing God’s peace, Presence and hearing from Him. I became too busy for God. Obviously the work of a Mom and Dad does not end and the demands are always there when you have to take care of your children, but the important thing is to draw and call upon God’s peace and rest in the midst of doing everything. There will always be the demands of a job, ministry, church, family, taking care of your home, cooking, activities, etc… but God’s peace can transform your experience and everyone around you.
The Lord showed me another example of His peace one time while I was at a Chickfila with our daughter Annabelle. There were many kids with their parents around us where we were sitting and eating and every kid sitting around us was going wild yelling with lots of energy and many were getting mad and upset at their parents as I sat there with Annabelle. While this was taking place around us I noticed Annabelle was completely calm, quiet, happy and content. I know there were age differences between Annabelle and many of the other children which also brings different stages of development, and there are different personalities, temperments and behaviors, but the Lord showed me through this experience one of the main reasons Annabelle was so calm, quiet, happy and content was because of the peace of God.
My husband and I surround Annabelle with an environment of the peace of God in our home which directly effects Annabelle experiencing that same peace for herself. We try on a daily basis to play worship music and play worship music videos on our tv which we have done since Annabelle was born. Ever since Annabelle was an infant she has always stopped what she was doing to look at our tv while we play worship videos and at 6 months of age Annabelle would be in her baby walker and stop what she was playing with, walk over in the baby walker and sit right in front of the tv as soon as we turn on worship videos and she still does to this day. I believe because we try to create an atmosphere of God’s Presence through worship each day, through praying and resting in God’s Presence; Annabelle is calmer, happier and more content because she feels the peace of God too. That is why in the midst of kids yelling, acting wild and even getting mad all around Annabelle at Chickfila, Annabelle was able to be quiet, calm, happy and content because she feels the peace of God that we work to cultivate in our lives each day.
I have to give credit to my husband John because I did not understand or know what the peace of God really was until I met him. Anyone who knows my husband John can tell you that John carries the peace of God and that he knows how to rest. It is a gift from the Lord and I am grateful that John has taught me the importance of the peace of God and what it means to rest in God’s Presence. Prior to marrying John I was always busy and loved it and I did not feel like I truly knew how to rest, but John helped me learn how to let go and rest in God’s Presence and how to receive God’s peace. Now I crave God’s Presence, peace and rest.
One of the ways to get the peace of God is to ask God for it. If you feel like you do not have peace ask God to minister His peace to you. When you ask for God’s Presence to minister to you and fill you, you will feel God’s peace and rest. I would make an effort to be still in God’s Presence and wait upon God to hear and experience Him so you can find His rest. Take time to not always be busy, but rest.
I am so grateful to God for His peace and rest that truly satisfies our souls. The peace of God is such an amazing thing because it brings contentment and rest. Without the peace of God I do not believe anyone can truly feel contentment and rest. God’s peace brings with it joy and satisfaction and a sense of security inside. My prayer for every person reading this is that you would experience God’s peace and rest and that you would find complete contentment and satisfaction in God.
